Lists for our groceries, lists for our personal life, lists for “stuff to do at work”, some of us make lists for “personal stuff to do at work.” Coding on our pet projects is an obsession at best. Using our lunch hour or coffee breaks to add a few more lines or run a quick routine is second nature. We use lists to organize “what’s next.” In the book, The Checklist Manifesto, Atul Gawande, the author points out that “no matter how expert you may be, well-designed check lists can improve outcomes.” He even uses them for his own surgical team! So in that spirit, we surface the checklist below to get your creative juices flowing.

Concept to Implementation Checklist

1. Develop the idea.

2. Decide upon the target market or typical user profile.

3. Make a hardware choice for output and identify associated requirements.

4. Pick one or more programming languages.

5. Design a prototype of the program or service.

6. Write the program. (Using Proxomo API of course)

7. Test the program (also known as alpha testing).

8. Debug any problems identified through beta testing.

9. Distribute test copies for people, or “friendlies,” to test (also known as beta testing).

10. Debug any problems identified through beta testing.

11. Release the program or service to the general market.

12. Continue with the debugging process for any unforeseen issues following roll out.

Think about it… what if local governments understood what we understand, that technology startups can significantly improve communities in a myriad of ways. We are talking about everything from their physical presence, to the products and services that they offer. Entrepreneurs, and the startup culture that they bring with them, are good for communities. This is the theme we’ll be exploring on Thursday, April 26 at the Studio Movie Grill in Lewisville from 6-9pm. The discussion will be led by the modern day legends Lewisville mayoral candidate Winston Edmondson and LaunchDFW’s Brad Anderson!

Join in the discussion about what some of the interesting possibilities that might come about when local governments, city managers, city councils, and mayors truly understand the value of the Startup Community? This will be phenomenal future minded conversation.

We encourage all our followers to come out and join this interactive conversation!

Read more about it at LaunchDFW

Register here!

Here are the “official” details for this 2012 Mobile App Olympics:
A mobile app design & development competition. Find the skills and inspiration to turn your app idea into a reality in just 48 hours, while competing with a global community in San Francisco, New York, Berlin, London, and Paris.

On Friday evening, registered idea generators have one minute to pitch an app concept to a tech audience. Attending designers and engineers as well as our team of glorious mentors vote for the best ideas that will be developed into applications during the weekend. Teams are formed around the most promising projects and the competition begins. On Sunday evening, the teams will present to a panel of celebrity judges and to the victors will go the spoils (our awesome sponsored prizes).

This BeMyApp Weekend is dedicated to all platforms – both native and mobile web apps. It will take place simultaneously in 7 cities around the world. Dallas • New York • San Francisco • Berlin • London • Paris • Zurich

Each city will nominate its best app to compete in the finals. A 48-hour worldwide vote will be launched and a worldwide winner will be selected. The winner will receive the 2012 Gold Medal in Mobile Apps!

Confirmed Prizes

The best prize you’ll get is the connections you forge and the challenge you conquer. That said, we’ve got some pretty sweet cherry-on-top prizes planned too:
Squarespace Business Package ($480 value) • iPhone Boot Camp Ticket ($910 value) • GitHub Bronze Account ($300 value) • CloudBees DevPro ($600 value) • Nokia Lumia (2 each $500 value) • Blackberry Playbook Tablet (6 each $250 value for the global winner) • Coverage by top tech bloggers including Reuters, Wired, & TNW (priceless)

Technologies and Tools You Might Use

iOS – iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch • HTML5 • Android (Ice Cream Sandwich) • Windows Phone 7 (WP7) • bada
Objective-C (ObjC) • Mono • Javascript • JQuery • Java • C#
OpenGL • Unity 3D • WebGL • XAML
JSON • XML
Xcode • Sencha • Eclipse • Visual Studio • Photoshop • Illustrator • Keynote

10AM – Saturday Morning – Mega Meetup. If you are not technical or not interested in coding, you can still come join the fun with our Mega Meetup. We have invited all of the area’s technical meetup groups to come and meet on the same day. The idea here is that the groups are split into back-end (cloud, azure, etc.), front-end (HTML5, Java, etc.), and business (WordPress, Drupal, analytics, consulting etc.). This way, you can walk in with an idea and out the other side with a business plan and team!

7PM – Saturday Evening. Promptly at 7PM, teams will begin pitching their ventures. Pitches are limited to three (3) minutes per team.

Prizes. The following prizes are experiential and geared towards accelerating you towards a successful business as well as expanding your network and industry knowledge:

•AT&T Foundry – Select teams will have the opportunity to pitch the AT&T Foundry on their idea for possible further funding

Thanks to the folks at the Gravity Centre Dallas (http://gravitycentredallas.com/about/startup-residents/ ) for housing us in their co-working space.

As an ngConnect collaborator and the first resident of the Gravity Centre, we received and accepted the invitation to showcase our innovative API amongst the amazing Alcatel-Lucent line-up of all star services and products. Proxomo team members, Daniel, MeLinda, and Steve traveled to Las Vegas for the event. A stellar AirBnB find is providing us with a wicked awesome little house on a golf course not too far from the strip.

We’ve had amazing traffic through the booth and look forward to a spectacular last two days of this massive event. Come see us if your in town!
